I am the mom of two tiny princesses, the wife of an incredible husband, whom I call “BFlo,” and a lover of fitness and nutrition.
I was diagnosed with multiple things such as asthma, chronic bronchitis etc from a very young age. I grew up in homemade “tents” over my bed to keep the steam from the vaporizer in, nights in the bathroom with the shower running full blast to create enough steam for me to breathe, sleeping on stacks of pillows to keep my head elevated and lots of cough medicine. I went to several allergists, but never got any real results- I’m allergic to dust mites. Awesome, our house was very clean and who doesn’t sneeze around dust? My mom decided when I was around 13 that I was allergic to milk. There weren’t very many options at the time, so I switched to rice milk and my cough/asthma/bronchitis went away. Thank God for So Delicious Coconut Milk, Rice Dream just wasn’t doing it for me.
I also had chronic stomach issues my whole life. This took quite a bit longer to find a resolution. I was in pain, constipated and it was very debilitating to say the least. After many trips to doctors, specialists etc, I had a colonoscopy at 19. No one could ever find anything and I was left with “we don’t know what’s causing you these issues, maybe IBS?” The purple pill didn’t work, so it wasn’t that. It wasn’t until my mom went through a very life-changing illness involving parasites that I decided to try out the gluten free life. It wasn’t popular at the time, but right on the brink of many new products about to be released in the US. At the age of 26, I found that with eliminating gluten, I was both pain-free and without any digestive issues. I firmly believe that I have a gluten intolerance, but have never been tested for Celiac.
Onto how doing the Whole30 forever changed me. If you haven’t read “It Starts with Food,” go buy it, check it out at the library, download it, do whatever is necessary to get this book. Finally everything in my life makes since! I tried out this elimination diet/lifestyle. I have to say, it wasn’t very hard. Because I was already gluten and dairy free, I had already overcome that mental obstacle of what it means not to be able to eat certain things. It amazed me at how much BETTER food tasted without all the processed gluten free pasta, cheese, etc. Another thing to know about me, ever since I moved to Texas 11yrs ago, I’ve had the most severe allergies ever! I always say I’m allergic to Texas air (other than the air, I love this state). About 20 days into it, I realized that I could actually breathe for the first time in 11yrs while all around me were sneezing due to the nasty Texas allergies! I was so scared to start reintroducing different foods after the 30 days were over. I quickly found out that rice made my stomach hurt and that corn triggered ALL of my allergies to come back!!! Unbelievable. As a gluten free person, corn was kind of my go to. Not anymore. Do I miss chips and salsa? Heck no, because I know how I’ll feel after I eat them, literally, just a few hours after consumption.
I did learn that I can tolerate oats, praise Jesus! I LOVE oats!!! Can’t do hummus, chickpeas apparently don’t agree with me. Oh well, believe it or not, you can make hummus without them. I’ve pretty much stuck with the Whole30/Paleo lifestyle and will continue to experiment with how food affects me. For now I’m taking a break. I now have the knowledge of what makes me feel awesome, and I really hate not feeling awesome…
After being asked numerous times by friends and family how I got my body back, I decided it was finally time to share my journey, what I have learned, what I continue to learn, my food intake, my thoughts and recipes all in one place in order to share with you. Please keep in mind that I am NOT a personal trainer, nutritionist, or licensed in anything fitness or health related… This is what has worked for me, so I am sharing it with you.
While I have come up with some of my own recipes, and will continue to create, there are awesome people out there that have perfected some pretty darn good food. My meal plans are full of recipes from the best creators of Whole30/Paleo food around. I’ve tried all of the recipes myself and they’re all what I make my family daily. What’s different about me and my plans? Well, the look and style first off. I just like color and beautiful things- Ha! I want you to have an option for every meal to cook if you want to. For me, I don’t like paying for something that says “go out to dinner” or something. I like recipes, cook with my computer/iPad every night, and let’s be honest, it’s NOT fun taking a toddler and baby out to dinner- ever. The grocery lists may appear lengthy, but truth be told, you’ll already have a lot of the items in your pantry, so just cross them off your list. Email me. Help me help you!
I am blessed beyond belief, have a very imperfect life and live for Jesus to the best of my ability. I love inspiring and motivating others to achieve their own health and fitness goals. I believe in keeping fitness fun and making health a lifestyle. All my life I’ve always said: “I don’t know what I want to be. I just want to help people.” Fitness and nutrition have become my passion, and I want to help people every single day. I hope to inspire you to be the best you, that you can be. And maybe help some people along the way.
