I love makeup, I always have. I’ve never been one of those go-natural people, high-5 to those of you that can do it, but it’s just not in my DNA. When I wear makeup, I never go for the ‘natural, make it look like I’m not wearing makeup when I am’ type of look either. For me, it’s like, the more eyeliner, the better! I’m actually not including eyeliner in this info sesh. I have used the same one for 100yrs and this ‘old faithful’ isn’t up for change regarding that one itty bitty item yet (only because I haven’t found anything better). So, if you have any clean eyeliner suggestions, DEFiNiTELY let me know!!!
I wanted to create a makeup post that can cater to ALL audiences. From young families on a budget to empty nesters that so enjoy not having to worry about little stuff all of the time now that their kids are grown. I’ve done all of the research for you, so sit back and relax. One routine is what I call my drugstore makeup routine that requires effort into reading EVERY ingredient, and the other is the Beautycounter routine which is a one-stop safe shop and requires zero thinking because they’ve done it all for you.
Let’s start with the drugstore, budget friendly look first.
Physicians Formula’s Super CC | Physicians Formula’s Super BB All-in-One Beauty Balm Kit | Physicians Formula’s Super BB #InstaReady Contour Trio BB Stick SPF 30 in Blush | Wet n Wild Megalast Lip Color | Wet n Wild Megaslicks Lip Gloss | e.l.f. Flawless Eyeshadows | e.l.f. Mineral Mascara
First off, summer looks require SPF at all times for me. I have no desire risking a burned face. Physicians Formula has always been one of my favorites when it comes to “safer” skincare. I really feel like they were the first pioneer of safer drugstore beauty. They have come out with a LOT of new products recently, and their new formulations are even safer than before. It’s tough to keep a low toxicity when it comes to spf, and most of their new BB and CC creams are a level 2 toxicity, which to me is fantastic! When I’m looking for products, I don’t want anything over a 2 if possible. I like both the BB and CC, it’s actually really hard to tell the difference, but I’m sure it’s something… I’m thinking that the CC blends a little better on my skin, but it’s really hard to say for sure. The kit is awesome! For $22 you get like half a makeup bag worth of stuff. I love the concealer and the powder too- all SPF 30. I’ve never in my life used a stick blush before, and it was really weird to me at first, but I have to say, it’s super easy! Since I’ve been using this blush, I’ve gotten random compliments on my makeup… Guess it looks good? Just glide it across your cheek bone and smear in a bit. I honestly would have never guessed Wet n Wild to have “clean” makeup, I mean seriously at that price point, how? But they do. I love their lip products, and not all are clean, but these two are level 2 toxicity. For $1.93 you cannot go wrong and I certainly don’t think twice about getting my girls their very own. I like to layer the lipstick and gloss and they last a really long time. Lastly e.l.f. another surprise for the win! These eyeshadows are $2, what???? Yeah, they are and the mascara is $3. It’s my FAVORiTE ‘safer’ mascara so far, and I’ve tried A LOT!!! I’m super picky with eyeliner and mascara. I’ve gotten all of these at Walmart with my screaming kids in the cart wishing they were anywhere but there while researching on my EWG app to make sure I’m grabbing the right things. Their website is even better than the app, here’s an example for you to checkout: ewg.org Remember that not all of these brand’s products are safe, but these are the safer options I use.
Next stop is my favorite One-Stop-Shop look with Beautycounter.
Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer | Touchup Skin Concealer Pen | Color Pinch Cream Blusher | Mattifying Powder | Lengthening Mascara | Lip Gloss | Sheer Lipstick
I joined Beautycounter to support their mission: “To get safer products into the hands of everyone.” After finding out my kids were sitting in ‘organic’ bath soap that had a neurotoxin as an ingredient and constantly searching to find clean sunscreen that actually rubbed into my skin, I found Beautycounter. And while they are considered more of a luxury brand (but usually cheaper than Sephora or Nordstroms beauty counters) I feel like you get what you pay for, as well as the peace of mind knowing that they go to EVERY extreme in securing that their products are absolutely safe. Decades of studies indicate that serious health issues (including but not limited to asthma, cancer, and infertility) are on the rise and are due in some part to our ongoing exposure to toxic chemicals—whether it’s in the shower, on our commute, while we eat lunch at a local restaurant, or when we clean our kitchens at home. Beautycounter has banned the use of more than 1,500 questionable or harmful chemicals in their products.
The Dew Skin is basically a tinted moisturizer with SPF that’s perfect for summer with a little pearl sheen to it that makes your skin look glowing for summer. I love the concealer pen, just click and use. The Cream Blusher is perfect for multi-use, blush and you can dab it on your lips for some color. It’s a great shade for ANY skin color, very versatile. The Mattifying Powder is one of my favorite Beautycounter makeup items. It will take away any shine in one swipe, it’s like magic. The mascara was an award winner and top favorite mascara of all mascaras last year. I love to layer the lipstick and lipgloss, but love them solo as well. Once again, this is quality product. Because the ingredients are so pure, these products are very concentrated so a little goes a long way. Beautycounter is EWG certified which translates to 100% clean, no question.
