This is my first post of the year- Yay! My website had an outage (thank you GoDaddy), my first baby girl started at her new school (full immersion Spanish school) and I’m still battling this imbalance in my body that’s been going on for the last 10 months. Good news- it took 2yrs to get into Spanish school, but it was worth it! My sister-in-law fixed my website in like 2 seconds after I spent 20 hours worrying about it. And I have an appointment with yet another new doctor (holistic) this week- WooHoo!
I started my 5th round of the Whole30 January 1st. I started using collagen in my coffee. After several days of feeling terrible, and really not having much to blame it on because I was eating super clean, I figured out that I’m allergic to collagen and therefore gelatin. BUMMER! Of course I’m allergic! How am I supposed to keep my youthful appearance up without being allowed one of the best ingredients to help me?! I mean, I’m literally allergic to everything! Thank you Whole30! But seriously I am thankful. I now know how to tell when I’m off, what’s bothering me etc.
So I wanted to share with you how I clean my face every night, and what the key ingredient is that has brought a glow to my skin. Call me a modern day hippie all you want, because that’s what I am. I try and keep it as clean as I can, which in turn makes my cleanser cost next to nothing! Coconut Oil + Baking Soda + Oregano Oil. The Oregano oil is actually the key ingredient. I read about it somewhere. This 60yr old lady said she uses it on her face and she looks a lot younger than 60. I have been incorporating it into my evening routine for 3wks now and all I can say is WOW! My skin feels softer, smoother, healthier and vibrant! I would love to try oregano in the essential oil form next to see if it works the same.
Here’s my evening routine: I take out a bit of coconut oil and put it across the fingers of one hand, stick one finger in the baking soda and mix that into the oil, rub my hands together (the coconut oil melts) and clean all of the eyeliner and mascara off my eyes first. After that, I do the same process over again only I add 1 drop of the oregano oil, rub my hands together for the oil to melt and rub it all over my face. I rub it all off with a warm washcloth. Oregano is really hot, so if you do more than one drop, it might burn your face off.
Oregano oil has tons of other benefits. I mix a couple of drops in with water and make my kids take it at the first sign of a cough. It really is fabulous at stopping coughs and for upper respiratory issues. Just be careful and follow the directions on the bottle. I would think that too much of this stuff would burn your stomach.
As a bonus, I thought I would share the under eye concealer that I use. I never needed it until I had a second kid who’s, let’s just say, always kept me VERY busy. In a desperate attempt of trying not to look like a run-down mom, I used my ‘phone a friend’ and sought some advice. She recommended Bobbi Brown’s Creamy Concealer Kit. I ran to Nordstrom that night, they did a color match and the rest is history. It ain’t cheap, but it is totally WORTH iT! I just rub a bit of the creamy stuff under my eyes and use a small brush to put on the powder as the finishing touch to my makeup routine. Right after I started using this, people started telling me how young I looked. Thank you Bobbi Brown! So obviously it works.
(I had to include my $8 orchid from Trader Joe’s in the pic. It’s just SOOOOO Pretty! And I can’t even kill it.)
I would love to start transitioning to healthier makeup options. I do my best now, but it will take time. Pretty sure I’ll never switch my eyeliner because I’ve pretty much used the same one since I was 12, and I’ve drawn on the same style since I was 12 as well, ha! Gotta love the wings. I just can’t help it, it’s my thing.
